Together WE can!
I want you to take a minute and think about all the friends that you grew up with. Over the years, you have seen people’s lives change and their careers develop. Success is relative for each of us, but some of the people we know get to a place where we think, “they’ve made it!” Whether they go high up the corporate ladder or make a name for themselves in the performing arts, there are always those people that stand out and reached a major life-goal that puts them among the top 10-15% most successful people we know.
Not everyone we know achieves this success or has things work out the way they had planned. But what if we could change that?
Most people are unaware that 85% of adults with developmental disabilities are unemployed. That means if you are a person with a developmental disability, only 15% of the people you have gone to classes with or to different programs with throughout your life will ever have a job.
At ICAN, we have been working for years to change this statistic in our community, and we are beginning to see significant change.
In 2017, our Individual Supported Employment Program was able to find 53 new work opportunities for people in our community with developmental disabilities. That’s 53 individuals who are able to experience the life goal of having a job where they are able to work independently and make a fair wage.
But this is just the beginning. For every person we have served, there are 9 of their peers, friends, or family members desiring to obtain the same life goal. We have a lot more work to do.
For those donors and volunteers that have supported us, please know that you are making an impact. Each of these 53 individuals represents a life changed, and the benefits for that individual are immeasurable.
Imagine the lasting impact you can have by helping people ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS. Together we can make a difference, let's change these statistics together!
